Mold Remediation & Restoration in Norwalk. Priced before we start.

CSLB #992029 (license lookup, opens in new tab)Same-day serviceLocally & family-owned

Mold remediation removes mold from a home and restores the damaged area, but it only holds if the water that caused it is stopped first. One Hour Plumbing Service handles the whole problem with one phone call: Mickey finds and fixes the leak, then brings in a certified mold remediation partner to do the removal and restoration, across Norwalk, southeast LA County, and northern Orange County.

Signs you have a mold problem

  • Black, green, or white spots on drywall, grout, or ceilings, especially under sinks and behind toilets
  • A musty or earthy smell in a bathroom, laundry room, or closet that won't air out
  • Bubbling paint, soft drywall, or a stain that keeps coming back after you clean it
  • Allergy symptoms, coughing, or headaches that ease up when you leave the house
  • A past leak, slab leak, or sewer backup that was dried out but never really checked
  • A water bill that jumped, with no visible leak (hidden leaks feed hidden mold)

How Mickey handles it

  1. 01Call Mickey. Describe what you see and smell, and he'll tell you what's likely going on.
  2. 02He finds the water source: a slab leak, a failing supply line, a leaking drain, or a sewer backup. Mold never shows up without water.
  3. 03The leak gets fixed first and the price is quoted before work starts. Removing mold without stopping the water is a waste of your money.
  4. 04Mickey brings in a licensed, certified mold remediation partner for containment, removal, drying, and restoration. You don't have to find or vet anyone.
  5. 05One point of contact the whole way. If the remediation crew finds more water damage, Mickey is already on the job.

Why call a plumber for mold?

Mold is a symptom. Water is the disease. In nearly every home mold case in Norwalk and the surrounding cities, there's a leak behind it: a pinhole in a copper supply line, a slab leak under the floor, a drain line that's been seeping into a wall, or a sewer backup that soaked the subfloor. A remediation company can scrub the mold away, but if the pipe is still wet, it comes back in weeks.

That's why the right first call is a plumber. Mickey finds the water, stops it, and documents it. Then the remediation crew does their part on a dry house, so the work actually lasts. Calling the plumber first also means you get one honest opinion on how big the problem really is before anyone starts cutting drywall.

What our mold remediation partner does

One Hour Plumbing Service is a licensed plumbing contractor (CSLB #992029). Mold removal is a separate trade with its own certifications, equipment, and insurance, so we don't pretend to do it ourselves. Instead, Mickey works with a certified mold remediation and water damage restoration company he trusts and has vetted. When you call us, he coordinates them for you.

A full remediation job typically includes:

  • Moisture mapping and air quality testing to find how far the mold has spread
  • Containment with plastic barriers and negative air pressure so spores don't travel through the house
  • Removal of contaminated drywall, insulation, carpet, or cabinetry that can't be saved
  • HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment, and air scrubbing
  • Industrial drying with dehumidifiers and air movers until moisture readings are normal
  • Restoration: new drywall, paint, flooring, or cabinets so the room looks like it did before
  • Documentation and photos for your insurance claim

Water damage restoration after a burst pipe or sewer backup

Not every call starts with visible mold. A lot of them start with water: a pipe that burst overnight, a water heater that let go, a sewer line that backed up into a tub. The first 24 to 48 hours decide whether that turns into a mold problem. Mickey can be there fast, 24/7, to stop the water and get the plumbing repaired, and the restoration crew can start drying the same day.

If sewage was involved, it's not a do-it-yourself cleanup. Category 3 water (sewage) requires removal of anything porous it touched and proper disinfection. Mickey will tell you straight whether what you're looking at is a mop job or a remediation job.

Is mold remediation covered by insurance?

Often, partly. Most homeowners policies cover mold and water damage when the cause was "sudden and accidental," like a burst pipe, and exclude it when the cause was a slow leak that went unaddressed for months. Many policies also cap mold coverage at a set dollar amount. The plumbing repair itself is usually not covered, but the damage it caused often is.

Mickey documents the leak, the cause, and the repair, and the remediation partner documents the moisture readings and the scope of removal. That paperwork is what an adjuster wants to see. Call your insurer early, before anything is torn out, and ask what they need.

Straight talk about referrals

Our mold remediation partner pays us a referral fee when we bring them a job. We're telling you that up front because that's how Mickey runs the business. It doesn't change what you pay, you're never obligated to use them, and Mickey wouldn't send you to anyone he wouldn't send to his own family. You don't call them, you call Mickey. He makes the call, sets it up, and stays on the job until it's done. If you'd rather use your own remediation company, he'll fix the plumbing and hand off to whoever you choose.

Straight prices, no bait

Free estimates, by phone or in person. No "$99 special" bait. The price you're quoted is the price, and it doesn't change without your OK.

“Very knowledgeable. This guy helped us out a lot and saved us money. One of our pipes bursted outside under concrete, first guy that we called wanted to break so much concrete and needed to do this that etc. glad we found this service, Mickey gave us a better solution with better results. Highly recommended.”

Tips from Mickey on mold remediation & restoration

Common questions

Can a plumber fix mold?

A plumber fixes what causes mold: the leak. Mold removal itself is a separate certified trade. Mickey finds and repairs the water source, then coordinates a certified mold remediation partner for the cleanup, so you make one call instead of two.

How much does mold remediation cost?

It depends on how far it spread. A small area under a sink is a few hundred dollars; a wall or a room with cut-out drywall and restoration runs into the thousands. Call, describe it, and Mickey will give you an honest read before anyone comes out.

Should I fix the leak or remove the mold first?

Fix the leak first, always. Mold removed while the pipe is still wet grows back within weeks. Mickey stops the water, then the remediation crew works on a dry house, so the job holds.

Can I just clean the mold myself with bleach?

For a small spot on tile or a hard surface, yes. On drywall, wood, or anything porous, bleach only kills the surface and the roots stay. If it's bigger than a few square feet or keeps returning, call. Something is feeding it.

Is mold after a leak dangerous?

It can be, especially for kids, older adults, and anyone with asthma or allergies. Symptoms that improve when you leave the house are a common tell. Get it looked at. Mickey can tell you on the phone whether it sounds like a small fix or a real remediation job.

Do you handle sewer backup cleanup?

Yes, with the plumbing side first: Mickey clears or repairs the sewer line, 24/7. Sewage cleanup is category 3 water and needs proper removal and disinfection, which the remediation partner handles. Call and he'll coordinate both.
