What sets the price
- The job itself: clearing a sink drain is a short visit, a sewer repair is a dig
- Access: a cleanout at the curb versus pulling a toilet to reach the line
- Parts: a flapper is a few dollars, a water heater is a major purchase
- The age of the house: 1950s galvanized and clay pipe often add work
- The time of day: an after-hours visit can cost more than a weekday one
Why the $99 ad is not the price
A low advertised price gets a technician in the door. The real number comes later: a cleanout fee, a longer-cable fee, a recommendation for a camera or jetting or a new line. Ask for the full price before anyone comes out, and ask whether it can change once they are there.
How to get a real number on the phone
Have these ready when you call, and most common jobs can be priced on the spot:
- Which fixture or drain, and whether others are affected
- What it is doing, and when it started
- Roughly how old the house is, and whether it has a cleanout
- For a water heater: gas or electric, tank size, and its age
What free estimates mean here
At One Hour Plumbing Service the estimate is free, by phone or in person. There is no trip fee for coming out to look. The price you are quoted is the price, and it does not change without your OK. If the job turns out to be bigger once Mickey sees it, he tells you before doing anything more.
Ways to pay less
- Cash, senior, and military discounts apply to every job
- Call during the day if the problem can wait until morning
- Fix small things early: a running toilet or a dripping valve is cheaper than the water damage it causes
- Get a second opinion on any big quote. Mickey gives them free.
