Restaurant drains: snaking vs. hydro jetting

A backed-up floor drain in the middle of service is lost money by the minute. For kitchens in Santa Fe Springs, along Pioneer Boulevard in Artesia, and around Norwalk, the cause is almost always the same, and so is the fix that lasts.

Why kitchen lines clog

Grease goes down the drain warm and liquid. It cools in the pipe, sticks to the wall, and catches food solids. Layer by layer the opening narrows until the line stops. A grease trap catches a lot of it, but not all, and not when it is overdue for pumping.

What a snake does

A cable machine punches a hole through the blockage so water can pass. It is fast and it is the cheapest option. But the grease is still coating the pipe, with a hole through the middle. In a busy kitchen that hole closes again in weeks.

What hydro jetting does

A jetter sends high-pressure water through a nozzle that scours the full inside of the pipe and flushes the grease down the line. The pipe is back to its full opening, not just a path through the middle. For grease lines it lasts far longer than snaking.

See it on camera

With hydro jetting from One Hour Plumbing Service the camera inspection is free. You see the line before and after. The camera also shows whether there is a second problem, such as a sagging section or a broken pipe, that no amount of cleaning will fix.

Put it on a schedule

Most kitchens that jet on a schedule stop having emergency backups. How often depends on volume and what you cook. Mickey will tell you what he sees in the line and suggest an interval, and you can adjust it after the first cycle.
