Tree roots
Most Norwalk sewer laterals are original clay pipe from the 1950s, laid in short sections with a joint every few feet. Roots find the joints, get in, and grow. A snake cuts them back and they grow again, which is why the backup returns on a schedule. A camera run shows exactly where they are getting in.
A broken or bellied section
Clay pipe cracks and shifts over 70 years. A cracked section catches paper and debris. A bellied section, where the pipe has sagged, holds standing water and sludge. Neither one stays clear for long no matter how often it is snaked. Only a camera can tell you this is the problem, and only a repair on that section fixes it.
Grease and buildup
Kitchen grease cools and coats the inside of the line until the opening is a fraction of its size. Snaking pokes a hole through it. Hydro jetting scours the pipe wall clean, which is why it lasts far longer for grease-heavy lines. That is the right tool for restaurants and for houses where the kitchen drain is the one that always goes first.
How to find out which one you have
Ask for a camera inspection. The camera goes down the cleanout and shows the whole line on a screen. Roots, cracks, bellies, and grease all look different. With hydro jetting from One Hour Plumbing Service the camera inspection is free, so you see the proof before and after.
What it costs to stop it for good
Roots can often be managed with jetting once a year. A single broken section is a spot repair, not a full replacement. A line that is broken in several places is the one case where replacement is the honest answer, and Mickey will show you the footage before recommending it.
